Perry Como’s song “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” might have crossed one’s mind if you happened by Room 104 in the CATC on Sept. 18, as more than 15 Stampers arrived and were directed to which station JoAnn Gantos, the lead chair, had assigned them for their part in assembling the Support Our Troops (SOT) Christmas card.
The assembly line started by creasing and folding the card base, two colors of inking needed for the designs and sentiments, preparing and attaching card fronts and ornament to the card base, and then onto quality control check.
At the end of over two hours, 106 beautiful cards were assembled by many hands, with attention to detail and ready to be delivered to SOT. Several designs were submitted to SOT communications, and this year’s card design from Diana Krug was chosen.
Support Our Troops mails a Christmas card with a holiday check to each service member on the SOT roster. This year’s roster is about 90 heroes (as the service members are referred to in SOT) who will be a recipient of another handmade card of love. Sassy Stampers provide cards to SOT, which are mailed throughout the year to thank these heroes for all they sacrifice for our freedom.
Several Stampers are still in Christmas mode as they make cards for the Veterans Day silent auction on Nov. 11 at the clubhouse. Make sure to go and bid on Christmas and note cards for those on your mailing list. Just think how special those you send a handmade card will feel. At this writing, I have had a sneak peek at some of the cards that will be up for bidding. Be prepared to go early to the auction and stake out which ones you want. You don’t want to be left out.
As the Stampers slide into their crafting sleigh and prepare those special cards for the holiday season, we take a quote from Santa’s sleigh: “Merry Christmas to all, and to all good night!”
