On April 11 members of Conservative Women of Action Julie Greenawalt, Suzie Kardon-Edgren, Judy Martin-Tafoya, Machelle Burtless, and Lisa Dyer attended the True Texas Project’s annual Texas Tough Gala and Fundraiser, held at the historic Fort Worth Stockyards.
The event celebrated the grit, spirit, and perseverance of Texans who fought for independence at the Battle of San Jacinto. Representative Nate Schatzline served as the evening’s master of ceremonies, while Reverend Rafael Cruz, father of Senator Ted Cruz, delivered an opening prayer.
Guests were treated to a delicious dinner featuring fresh salad, warm rolls, and rosemary-braised Texas Wagyu beef short ribs, topped off with a chocolate ganache cake.
After dinner, actor and filmmaker Kevin Sorbo took the stage as the evening’s keynote speaker. Best known for his role as Hercules, Sorbo captivated the audience with his powerful story of overcoming adversity, including surviving three strokes, and standing firm in his faith and values despite being labeled a Hollywood outcast. Today, through Sorbo Studios, he creates and stars in faith-based films that reflect his beliefs.
The evening ended, in true Texas fashion, with a fireworks display and the lively “Scoot, Shoot & Shuffle” after-party. Guests danced the night away to the sounds of a live band, celebrating faith, freedom, and fellowship under the Texas stars!
