Dance Club’s Mardi Gras Madness

Got a little Cajun in our souls.

Can’t bead-lieve how fun Mardi Gras is.

The holidays had become a distant memory. We’d returned to our usual routines. The weather was still a wintry gloom. Was it time to bury ourselves in a cave until the first daffodils finally appeared? Nah, not when the world’s largest party beckoned us all to join in the fun of Mardi Gras!

When we celebrate Mardi Gras, we carry on a tradition dating back to ancient times where revelers dressed in masked costumes and took to the streets with food, drink, and music. While we couldn’t be in New Orleans for Fat Tuesday, the Dance Club brought the festivities to the Ranch by hosting the Mardi Gras Bash and, boy, did we let the good times roll.

As revelers walked through the ballroom doors, they were met with vibrant decorations in the official colors of the holiday of purple (for justice), green (for faith), and gold (for power). Everyone was welcomed with strings of beads. (Hey, it isn’t Mardi Gras unless everyone’s got beads hanging around their necks!) New Orleans brass, zydeco, and swing music played in the background, bringing The Big Easy to life.

Many came dressed in that funky Fat Tuesday look, draped in bedazzling beads, masks adorned with sequins and glitter, feather boas, beaded headdresses, silly eyeglasses, and wacky hats. The tables were covered with bright pops of color and sprinkled with strings of beads. A court jester manned the stage.

The evening featured all our favorite music performed by The Grooves with plenty of dancing to the sounds of pop, country, rock and roll, and swing. And to top it off, there were fantastic door prizes generously donated by our wonderful sponsors: Nothing Bundt Cakes, Hillside Fine Grill, Bella Italia Bistro, and Henry Evans (dance instructor). Congratulations to the lucky winners, Concie Trevor, Collins Miller, Blake Pruitt, Paul Gage, and Carol Foster.

The spirit of Mardi Gras extended throughout the night. Mardi Gras isn’t just something to watch; it’s something to be a part of—to pretend, to be someone different, and to live a fantasy for a day. It’s a time to dress crazy. It’s a night of dancing and enjoyment of life—a time to gather together and celebrate in merriment.
