Democratic Club—Looking Back, Moving Forward

Vicki Baker

There’s just something special about this time of year—the twinkling lights, the festive mood, and the neighborhood parties. There’s also a renewed energy and optimism about going into the new year. The RR Democratic Club’s annual Holiday Party was a time to look back, recognize our achievements, and define what it means for Democrats moving forward.

Gathering at Salerno’s Italian Restaurant in Highland Village, we took time to reflect on the highlights and accomplishments of the past year. The volunteer efforts of club members were praised for their tireless work on local and municipal elections. Monthly meetings included time-relevant presentations on immigration, Democratic Party’s Project 2026, gerrymandered redistricting, and Denton tax ratification proposition, as well as presentations from City Council, Independent School Board, and Robson Ranch HOA board candidates.

Members attended countywide Democratic functions: LBJ Obama Dinner and the Democratic debate for Texas Agriculture Commissioner. A Town Hall for our Texas Congressional District 26 was held. Our club hosted County Executive Committee meetings. We marched in dozens of protests throughout the metroplex and even some out of state.

The summer pool party and TGIF socials provided a relaxed opportunity for members to kick back and just enjoy. Additionally, the club had a notable presence at the Ranch through its active participation in the 4th of July parade and HOA Club Open House.

During the evening’s festivities, club officers were recognized, those returning on the board and those newly elected: Co-Presidents Elaine Kushmaul and Richard Kushmaul, Vice President Joyce Brein, Secretary Vicki Baker, and Treasurer Stan Brein.

We’re wrapping up the year celebrating the amazing work everyone has done. But it doesn’t stop here. Let’s carry this momentum forward into 2026! Our effectiveness is built on the involvement and support of our members. Come join the RR Democratic Club in the clubhouse on the fourth Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. for social time and 6 p.m. for general membership meetings and presentations.
