There’s just something special about this time of year – the lights, the parties, the brisk, chilly air. There’s also a renewed energy and optimism about going into the new year. It’s a time to recognize our accomplishments and define what it means for Democrats moving forward.
The highs and lows of 2018 were reflected upon during the RR Democratic Club’s recent Winter Social. But more importantly, a path was set for the club’s future. Guest speaker, Brandon Jones, State Democratic Executive Committee member representing Senate District 12, outlined the goals of the Texas Democratic Party in the upcoming year. He praised the work of the RR Democratic Club whose members worked tirelessly for the campaigns in the midterm elections by block walking, manning phone banks to get-out-the-vote and hosting candidate forums.
The RR Democratic Club provides a venue for fellow democrats, progressives and independents to gather, socially connect and become more politically engaged. During 2018, the monthly meetings hosted political candidates for local municipal to state supreme court and national races, as well as presentations on gerrymandering and Denton’s economic development. The club also had a notable presence at the Ranch through its active participation in the 4th of July parade and the Adopt-A-Road/Keep Denton Beautiful program.
Looking back at the club’s inception almost two years ago, there were only a handful of members. Since then, the membership continues to grow and during 2018 added four to five new members each month.
The RR Democratic Club advocates for a strong Democratic presence at Robson Ranch by involving the community, supporting progressive candidates and educating voters. 2019 will be an exciting year for the club as it hosts a variety of speakers and community leaders to better inform and educate us as voters on issues affecting our community, state and country. Our effectiveness is built on the involvement and support of its members. Come join us on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Clubhouse.
