Brandon Chase McGee and Delia Parker-Mims, local leadership empowering our communities and moving us forward

More Texas Democrats are throwing their hats into the ring for the opportunity to go head-to-head against the opposition in next year’s elections. We’re committed to building the infrastructure to sustain the movement in which every Texan has a fair shot at opportunities for success. That’s why we’re rolling up our sleeves and putting in the hard work now to deliver results in 2024.

Progress is never easy. But remember, Texas Democrats have never shied away from big, bold ideas. To outline the party’s achievements since the 2022 mid-term elections and its strategies for upcoming successes, the RR Democratic Club welcomed Delia Parker-Mims, Chair of the Denton County Democratic Party, to its August monthly meeting.

For starters, Denton County attained the highest Democratic voter turnout of any in Texas by way of mailers, phone banking, block walking, social media, newspaper, and YouTube video clips. Additionally, the county claimed the number-one spot in the state with new registered voters through its active door-to-door campaign. And in coordination with candidates, aggressively fundraised to “get out the vote.”

Yet, while praising these accomplishments, Denton County Democrats refuse to sit on our laurels. We recognize the battles ahead and are organized at the grassroots level to build strength and influence for the 2024 election cycle. And Robson Ranch Democrats are right in the thick of things! Poll workers are volunteering to man primary voting sites. Candidates have been recruited to enter races, some for positions left unchallenged for years. Robust primary fundraising is underway. And an aggressive voter registration initiative has been reinstated.

Beyond preparing for the March primary, we cannot ignore the many changes happening in our own backyard. The City of Denton has seen astronomical growth, with an anticipated doubling of its population by 2050. Brandon Chase McGee, Place 5 City Council Member, addressed the many programs currently in play and those proposed to move our city forward.

The $310 million bond program is on the November 2023 ballot. So what’s included? Two new fire stations, animal shelter expansion, designated quiet zones around rail lines, inclusive playground, trail development, aquatic center improvements, renovations of City Hall West, replacement of South Branch Library, new active adult center, affordable housing programs, public art, flood and drainage improvements, and road expansions and developments.

Other big city-wide happenings are the addition of 10 new police officers, revitalization of the southern section, and enhanced rapport with developers to ensure economic development complements the city’s expectations and growth plans.

We live in a dynamic, vibrant city and state, proud of its diverse opinions and beliefs. The Denton County Democratic Party is rising, but to achieve our common cause, more is required. We are powered by volunteers like you—teachers, lawyers, business professionals, healthcare workers, grandparents, mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters. Come join the RR Democratic Club and continue to mobilize our ever-growing grassroots base and create the change we need in Texas. For more information, contact [email protected].
