Democrats Support Candidates Who Make a Difference

Vicki Baker

With election season in full swing, the RR Democratic Club is lending its full support to our candidates to help them succeed and win. While it’s true that each person only gets one vote, there are other ways to show our support for our favored candidates leading up to the election that go beyond showing up at the polls.

The question often comes up, “What’s the best way to get involved in advancing the Democratic Party’s cause?” The answer is simple: “Just do it.” Too often, people think that it’ll just “happen.” That someday someone will call them out of the blue and ask them to get involved. That’s simply not the case. The best way to get involved with our Democratic Party is to get out there and get started.

Taking this “can-do” attitude and through its grassroots advocacy, the Democratic Club hosted meet and greet fundraising parties, inviting friends and neighbors to meet candidates on the ballot for the March Primary and May municipal elections. Stephanie Draper (Texas House Senate District 12), Angela Brewer (Texas House District 64), and Lilyan Prado Carrillo (Denton City Council Place 6) answered questions, encouraged the exchange of ideas, and discussed issues of mutual concern.

Even if you’re unable to host or attend a meet and greet, there are many other ways you can help with a candidate’s campaign:

1. Volunteer for the campaign. Campaigns always need people to assist with a variety of tasks. Even if you can only spend a few hours of time, your efforts will pay off.

2. Display a yard sign. Yard signs spark conversations with neighbors about why you support certain candidates or ballot measures.

3. Canvass your community. Most campaigns rely on volunteers to walk door-to-door to speak with potential voters about our candidates and why they’d make good representatives.

4. Participate in phone banks to call potential voters and spread the word about our candidates.

5. Write a letter to the editor of the local newspaper in support of our candidates.

And, of course, join the Robson Ranch Democratic Club and be a part of something that makes change happen. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Clubhouse.
