Denton ISD Wants to Raise Taxes

David Blassingame

The Denton Independent School Board voted to increase the taxes on your home by 5 cents. The total amount would add $26 million to the Maintenance and Operating funds of the board. The increase is not for the construction of new buildings. It will be used for teacher salaries, additional support staff, and operational expenses.

The voters will have to okay the additional tax by voting for Proposition A on the ballot on Nov. 4, 2025. The School Board is explaining the additional tax by saying everyone will end up paying less tax. That’s because of another Nov. 4 proposition lowering the taxable value of our homes. The School Board says people 65 and over will not be subject to the additional tax, as their home taxes are frozen.

The last day to register to vote in Denton County is Oct. 6, 2025.
