Carol Collins, Carol’s Custom Draperies
Do you ever ask yourself, “How can I get the inspiration to take my interiors from boring to beautiful?” As you know I like to suggest that you start your inspirational journey by perusing the many design websites at your fingertips.
Pinterest is chock full of so many different styles, color combinations, furniture design and so much more. Build your “My Design” board and fill it full of ideas that strike you as interesting. You can sort through the ideas later. You’re just trying to find your design for now.
Houzz is another site with so many “professional designer” ideas. Well worth taking a look at the sight.
Freshome is one I’ve just discovered. The site has picture after picture showing color schemes, use of pillows, art and picture placement as well as rugs and accessories. Freshome also has articles about trends and creating your own space.
I also like to suggest that you thumb through design magazines. When you find a room display that you like, tear the page out and file it in a manila folder for future reference.
After your search and gathering for creative ideas that inspire you, take a look at all that you have collected. Most likely you’ll find a pattern that tells the story of your design style.
Look at your Pinterest boards, your manila folder of magazine pages and decide what colors are prominent. Look to see textures and style. Have you chosen modern, traditional or transitional styles? Are your colors bright and colorful or monochromatic? You will begin to see your design materialize. You can then begin to design your “home sweet home.”
