Designing with Carol: Happy Days

Abby McIntyre

Our world has certainly changed since the last time I wrote to you, friend. With many of us now practicing social distancing amidst this COVID-19 pandemic, it is now more important than ever to create a comfortable safe haven in our homes that is uniquely our own. If you are staying in and embracing this down time, now is the perfect opportunity for you to try your hand at reimagining your space. Staying at home does not have to be a prison sentence. This rare occasion is a sweet opportunity to analyze your space and make it a true reflection of you. Perhaps this will come in the form of small projects finally getting done around the house letting you breathe a sigh of relief. Maybe it will be an opportunity for you to rearrange the furniture in your living room to open up the space. Lucky for you, friend, here at Carol’s we have thought of a few simple ways to keep your home happy and healthy during this interesting time.

Staying in gives you the perfect chance to go through the boxes of family photos you have in the bottom of your closet. Have a blank space in your kitchen or bedroom that you want to personalize? Reminisce happy memories while going through your old photos and pick out your favorites. Picture walls have been all the rage lately. However, these projects can be time consuming. Staying home gives you all the time you need to plan out the placement and arrangement of these photos on your wall. During this time of social distancing, contact with loved ones is limited. Creating this photo wall can help your home glow with the happy memory of your loved ones. If you are looking to spice things up even more, take this photo project a step further. Another popular design trend of 2020 is bright pops of color used in unique ways. Consider the dusty cans of paint and spray paint you may have lying around the garage. This is your perfect chance to put them to use to bring vibrant life to your space. Incorporating colors that can be found in your photo selection will help tie the room together and create a unique focal point in the room.

Making these small personal changes will boost your mood while you practice social distancing and might even inspire you to make other changes to your space! This could lead to you finding a new color pallet to incorporate into your draperies or upholstery pieces in the future and be the start of a new home makeover.

Whatever the scope of your project is, we would love to help you out. In response to COVID-19, we are taking every effort to keep you safe, friend.
