Happy summer friend! It’s that time of year again. We’ve powered through the holiday season and gotten a breath of fresh air with spring cleaning. Now it’s time to assess our collection of odds and ends that is left over in our garage or storage unit and make something of them. There is a reason they’re still hanging around our house. Perhaps they hold some sort of sentimental value, or maybe you got the deal of a lifetime and snagged an end table that was too good to pass up. Whatever the case may be, the fact of the matter is, if you are anything like us, friend, you’ve probably got a few pieces of furniture and décor stored somewhere in your home that you aren’t quite sure what to do with. Fear not. This month we’re tackling this problem head on with you and guiding you on how to embrace your eclectic collection and incorporate these different pieces into your home.
With the rise of social media platforms, such as Pinterest, and the surge in popularity of HGTV keeping us updated on the newest trends sweeping the interior design industry, it’s easy to be inspired to redecorate your home on a whim. The key to doing this is using what you already have to your advantage and simply updating them to fit your new style. Try playing around with colors and patterns to do this. For instance, at one point in time, you might have had a more traditional taste and have light fixtures that reflect this and now want to try a more modern contemporary style. No problem here. Instead of completely switching out those fixtures, work with them. Changing the finish on them with a spray paint specifically for metal can transform them into the modern fixtures of your dreams.
What about that small sofa you have sitting in storage? Put it to use friend! Reupholstering it in a bright, lush velvet allows the piece to be the focal point of the room and lets you introduce new colors into your space. You can easily incorporate whatever color you choose into the room’s décor. Think about your rugs or draperies. If you want to incorporate some patterns into your space these are the perfect places to do it! A nice paisley or medallion motif in an area rug in the same color scheme as the sofa can pull the room together to make it warm and inviting. Mixing the contemporary finishes and upholstery with the more traditional patterns helps you pull the best from the past to create your own unique eclectic style throughout your home.
