On a very hot day in August, 16 members of the Rockin’ Red Ranchers gathered indoors at Barley & Board on the square for lunch and an informational talk on Denton. Our speaker was Sheila Houston from Discover Denton. Sheila has spent most of her life in Denton, went to UNT, and was a teacher for 30 years. After she retired, she volunteered at MainStreet Denton and then was asked to join Discover Denton, which led her to the Denton Visitor Center. She spoke about some of Denton’s history, including the fact that several buildings around Downtown are haunted! She told us about the many and varied things to do around Denton and gave everyone a little bag with maps and brochures. She talked about famous people who came from Denton, as well as musicians who attended UNT and movies that were filmed here. A good time was had by all!
