Kathy Jacobs in her own words:
“We moved to Robson Ranch in 2015 from Aledo, Texas. I am not only a native Texan, but a native of Dallas, as I had lived in Carrollton, Garland, Odessa, and Aledo. We had an empty nest and were done with the ‘Friday Night Lights.’ Our retirement phase of life started with new friends, new experiences, and a new place to live.
“My career was a little bit of everything. In my younger days, I was a florist/wedding planner and involved in insurance. Then the fitness craze started, and I was a professional aerobics instructor. I explored orthodontics as a chairside assistant, but a latex allergy forced me from the medical/dental profession. After having taught aerobics, teaching felt at home. That is where I spent the next 26 years, teaching grades 2nd/3rd and ending in 7th grade English.
“My hobbies include, of course, drama, reading (thrillers and history), and any type of craft. Drawing is fun (when I have time), usually charcoal portraits, then pickleball, line dancing, and my grandkids Collins and Jack. Oh, I have written several children’s books. No, I am not published—yet!
“Something you don’t know about me is that, as I said, aerobics was a huge part of my life for about 10 years. In fact, I was part of the old President’s Health Club’s first group of trained/certified aerobics instructors. I have taught every type of class from high/low impact, weights, circuit training, aquatics, and even prenatal/postpartum classes. My husband Don and I even owned our own health club at one time.
“My greatest accomplishment may sound cliché, but, in a word—kids—not just my own and grandkids but, hopefully, influencing the students I taught and am still teaching. I currently substitute for Argyle.
“I have survived over five trips to New York City and Washington, D.C, with over 50 7th/8th graders. Now that’s an adventure! Seriously, seeing these cities through their eyes was heartwarming.
“Christmas is my favorite time of year. I am a December child and even decorated Christmas trees professionally. This time of year pulls on my heartstrings, so just a thank you to this community. RR has such an energetic vibe that welcomes all with open arms. The mix of so many people from different walks of life and unique journeys makes each day an adventure. I tell everyone that we are nothing but a bunch of Sen-agers.”
