The February meeting of the Drone Club was held on Feb. 24 at the Creative Arts and Technology Center in Room 104 (Bluebonnet). Dennis Brooks and Steve Garvin presented on “Safe and Legal Flying at Robson Ranch.” The meeting agenda included the following: Safe Flying Checklist, Robson Ranch and FAA Controlled Airspace, Low Altitude Notices, Obtaining FAA Permission to Fly, and a Q&A session.
We had a full room of Robson Drone attendees who became very interactive in learning more about FAA drone rules. With an increasing amount of Robson Ranch falling under the Denton Airport Control Zone, it is imperative that drone operators here be aware of the requirement to file a Low Altitude Authorization Notification Capability (LAANC) if they live in the control zone or fly into the zone. You cannot legally fly in your own yard if you live in the control zone and do not file an LAANC. With a half dozen new people at the meeting, there were a number of questions on required documentation.
Our meetings are open to all Robson homeowners. If you have any questions, contact Steve Simpson at 817-919-1065 or [email protected].
