Friends of the Library: New Books for New Shelves

FOL Co-Chair Jane Scholz and Chair Marsha Scholze are excited to have newly purchased books to put on the FOL shelf.

I’ve mentioned the new shelves in the Robson Library a few times in past articles. They’ve been installed and make an impressive addition to our space. Now it’s time to talk about the books that will fill those shelves. For the first time in our history, we are able to purchase books for the library. In the past, we have always relied on donations of Robson residents to fill our shelves.

We had a successful holiday donation drive, which raised $2,000 from members of the Robson community. An additional $500 gift was also made available from FOL funds. We continue to receive donations from the community and appreciate your ongoing support.

The first order for over 50 books has been placed, and a similar number will also be ordered in April.

Robson Ranch Library volunteer librarians have catalogued and shelved most of the first order of books. You can see them (and check them out!) from the special FOL bookcase to the right as you enter the library. New books will stay on this shelf until they are moved to the new shelves. A few more books are still on order.

These new books include classics like The Little Prince and the complete works of William Shakespeare and Jane Austin. There are also a number of excellent mysteries and thrillers (Jack Reacher, Lincoln Rhyme). There is important 20th century fiction, like The Color Purple and Maus, and some memorable non-fiction titles, like Facing the Mountain and The Map that Changed the World. Many are Large Print editions.

Results from a recent survey indicated strong interest in biographies. The April order will focus on that genre. There is currently a survey regarding reader preferences available in the library. We ask that you complete one during your next visit to ensure that your interests are included on our next shopping list.

Thanks to the many FOL members whose donations made this possible. Who are they? Just look inside the covers of the new books where bookplates honor the donors and the people in whose name they donated.

To join RR Friends of the Library, stop by the library in the CATC building and deposit a check for $10 per person in the FOL dropbox on the checkout counter. If you join now, you will enjoy an extended membership through June of 2023.

Please do not leave cash. Checks are preferred. Make sure the check is made out to Friends of the Library – Robson Ranch and placed in an envelope with your name, email address, and whether you want a tax receipt. If requested, a receipt for tax purposes will be sent to your email address.
