Friends of the Library: Something Old, Something New

Dianna Lucas

If you’ve been to the Robson Library lately, you’ve noticed a few changes. Immediately to your right as you walk in the door you will notice the new Friends of the Library bookshelf.

This shelf serves a specific purpose. On top are flyers, which provide information about upcoming FOL book discussions: book to be discussed, time, date, place. It includes everything you need to know to prepare and attend.

Books for upcoming FOL book discussions will also be displayed here. If the one you’re looking for is not available, please check back soon. Hopefully, the reader will return it on a timely basis.

This is also the spot where you will find newly purchased books before they are migrated into their permanent home on the bigger, new shelves in the library. Friends of the Library is currently undertaking the pleasant task of buying new books provided for by donations made during our recent holiday fundraiser.

When you do go to the library, you will also notice something familiar and unchanged. When you look to your left when you walk in the door, you will see the smiling face of one or two of our cheerful library volunteers behind the desk. Please sign in to help us keep track of the number of people using our facility and the reasons.

It looks like those volunteers are enjoying the time they spend in the library helping their neighbors find the materials they came to borrow, along with their other duties. If you would like to join their ranks, please stop by the library and pick up a volunteer form. Complete it and give it to the volunteer at the desk. Doris Koenig will contact you with more information regarding training. The greatest need at this time is people willing to work nights and weekends or as substitutes. A few good men would also be appreciated.

To join Friends of the Library, stop by the library in the CATC building and deposit a check for $10 per person in the FOL drop box on the checkout counter. Those who join at the March 5 Robson HOA Open House Clubs Introduction or after that date will enjoy extended membership until June 30, 2023.

Please do not leave cash—checks are preferred. Make sure your check is made out to Friends of the Library – Robson Ranch and is placed in an envelope with your name, email address, and whether or not you want a tax receipt. If requested, a tax receipt will be sent to your email address.
