That’s what you get when you attend New Life Church, Robson Ranch’s Ladies Fellowship Circle. Some of Robson’s best cooks bring their best to share, and then our leaders Barb Schmidt and Nancy Thomas choose a theme we can discuss. Everyone who wishes gets into it. Very uplifting.

This time was a bit different, because we had work to do! Our New Life Church North Campus in Sanger is having their Fall Festival soon and needed us to help make orange pumpkin “bowling pins” for a bowling game.

Our hostess Carol Ripley let us put down tarps and bring in tables with plastic covers, brushes, and bowls of paint to change 1-liter drink bottles into “pumpkins.” The ladies put on painting clothes, grabbed brushes, and went to work. Before long, the pumpkins, decked out with raffia bows, green chenille tendrils, and funny faces, were done! Carol’s dog supervised all activity.

Since we were “working,” we decided to bring finger foods for this meeting, so there were sandwiches, dips, crackers, chips, pizza bites, sausage balls, cheese and phyllo triangles, brownies, cookies, and Kind bars!

A guest from North Campus, Donna Smith, joined us and became our unplanned speaker, because we were intrigued to hear about the efforts she and several grandmothers in our area are making. Donna and her group of grandmothers have studied up on Texas laws and district policies and procedures and have verification that the school board is allowing books in school libraries that are unacceptable material for children. They have attended school board meetings and protested having those books available to our children. Most board members have been resistant to Donna’s group’s protests, but they are persistent.

We are encouraged to attend board meetings, let our displeasure be known, vote for people who will protect our children, and pray that the Lord will cause our children to be guarded and to help place educators who will do right.
