On Monday, December 19, colorful red poinsettias and paper whites along with glowing table decorations lit up the dining room in the Grill next to the bar for the annual Christmas luncheon for the Robson Ranch Garden Club. A very special thank you to Mary Ann Rich for organizing the event and to Mary Ann and Barbara Warren for the lovely centerpieces. The gathering began at 11:30 a.m. with a brief welcome by the club president, Barbara Anderson.
At each place was a small bag of Christmas candies and a Christmas Trivia Quiz. No prizes for the winners of the quiz, but it was certainly a challenge that had the room buzzing! Did you know that Alabama was the first state to make Christmas an official holiday? Did you know that all snowflakes have six sides? Nothing vitally important, but interesting nonetheless.
After a typically delicious and well-served Grill lunch, raffle ticket numbers were drawn, and lucky winners went home with the paper whites or one of three poinsettias. We enjoy our regular and informative monthly meetings, but this is a good break in the routine for friends with gardening interests to gather and simply chat, whether about things botanical or otherwise. We did learn that “armadillos” do not bloom, but that some amaryllises take their good, sweet time to bloom, and we laughed together.
Are you interested in gardening and want to learn more? Please consider attending our next Garden Club meeting on Monday, 16 January, 10:30 a.m. in The Lone Star Room at the Clubhouse. Our program will be on the importance of trees to the general landscape and how to best care for them. January is the perfect time to begin thinking about the plantings in our yards, what might be fun to add, what should be eliminated and how best to maintain what we have. Membership is $10 per year per household, and you may call Barbara Warren at 425-443-4578.
If we can offer further information please call the club president, Barbara Anderson, at 940-239-6504. See you in January!
