Flowers are the perfect way to brighten a dreary morning, and the Robson Ranch Garden Club was surrounded by lovely blooms at Calloway’s Nursery in Denton for our November 16 meeting.
Tammy Trimmer, store manager, had a beautiful display of colorful plants for winter blooming. Tammy demonstrated planting a simple wooden orange crate, starting with a small rosemary plant and a cyclamen and surrounded those with pansies and Johnny-jump-ups. As she worked with the rosemary, the store filled with that wonderful fragrance. Garden club members in attendance were delighted when that very crate was raffled off as a treat from Calloway’s. By the way, did you know that the Johnny-jump-up in its natural form is a tri-colored violet and is the ancestor of our pansy, the flower of “monkey-faces.” After the potting demonstration, manager Tammy answered questions from the group of 26 hearty souls who ventured out on such a dismal, gray and rainy day. Gardeners always have questions and comments, so there was an informative discussion before we spent an enjoyable time exploring the stock in the store. Thank you to Mary Ann Rich, club vice-president, for planning such a delightful program and to Tammy Trimmer at Calloway’s for implementing it! The Robson Ranch Garden Club welcomes new members all year long. Our dues are $10 per household for the program year, which runs from September through August, with a summer hiatus in June, July and August. If you are new to gardening in north Texas you will certainly benefit from a membership. Please give our membership chair, Barbara Warren, a call at 425-443-4578 if you would like to become a member.
We look forward to our annual December Christmas luncheon, which is open to members only.
