Gardening on the Windswept Prairie

Ellen Sullivan

If you are new to the North Texas area, you may be wondering how you will enhance the landscape of your yard here at Robson Ranch. We deal with extreme temperatures, both cold and hot. The dust blows, and humidity comes and goes. And don’t forget about the wind on this rolling prairie where we live. And even if you are an old hand at Texas gardening, there’s always something new to learn or be aware of in North Texas.

Robson Ranch Garden Club offers something for everyone. You may be a novice at gardening but are retired now and want to learn more, or you may have gardened for years. All levels of interest and gardening experience enjoy the Garden Club here! Our speakers cover a wide variety of subjects, from grasses and ornamental plantings to indoor houseplants and propagation. Many of our presentations are certified Master Gardeners familiar with what works and what doesn’t in this climate. In addition to programs and speakers at the clubhouse, we also have an annual Plant Swap and field trips to a variety of interesting sites.

Our first meeting this year is Sept. 15 at 10:30 a.m. in the clubhouse. Please plan to attend!

We meet on the third Monday of the month from September through May. Dues are $10 per year per household (not per individual), and the dues come back to the members in the form of defrayed expenses on some of our field trips, etc.

Our Garden Club board members for 2025-26 are as follows: Betsy Duncan, president; Debbie Greenslade, vice president; Lisa Lebsack, secretary; Janice Brown, treasurer; Barbara Geiser, membership; Lori McCline, Yard of the Month; Ellen Sullivan, publicity; and Melodye Rogers, nominations.

Please watch the Pioneer Press each month for articles about our activities, and be aware of the Clubs and Activities announcements in the daily HOA emails.
