On May 2 at the CATC building, Room 104, genealogist Patti Huff Smith once again joined us to introduce GEDmatch, a free DNA site for genetic genealogy research. There is a lot to be learned from your DNA data, but you must take additional steps to make it happen. One way is to upload your raw DNA data to www.GEDmatch.com. GEDmatch.com is a website that allows users to share their DNA information with others to accelerate genealogical research and perform DNA match comparisons.
On May 8 at 2 p.m. at the CATC building, Room 104, Emily Richardson continued to assist us with writing about our grandparents. The rough draft is due on June 12, so this was a great opportunity to help you make progress.
On Tuesday, May 16, at 7 p.m. at the CATC building, Room 104, David Randall, a WikiTree mentor and project leader, will introduce WikiTree, the 100% free social networking website where genealogists go to collaborate. He’ll discuss what WikiTree is, what it is not, and what makes it unique from any other website out there. If you haven’t tried WikiTree, or even if you have, you won’t want to miss this informative presentation.
Looking ahead to June, we will start with a Help Session on June 12, and Laura Douglas will present how to use historical newspapers for research on June 20.
