Happy Potters Club

Cindy Groszkiewicz

The first half of 2025 was bustling with activity in the Happy Potters Studio.

• Seven new members were inducted into the club after completing the required introductory classes in February.

• A Throwing 101 class was also part of the February education agenda, teaching members the basics of using a pottery wheel (it’s all about centering!).

• Then in March, a Wheel Demo Workshop was held by Cori Milligan where she showed novice wheel potters how to successfully throw a wide-rimmed bowl.

• Four more new members were inducted into the club after completing the required introductory classes in May.

• Also in May, guest potter Jessica Battes-Grabowski was invited back to the studio to teach a few special pottery decorating techniques. One was water etching with a wax resist, and then two unique glazing techniques called “frozen pond” and “peacock.”

• In June the annual Kick-Off Party for Empty Bowls Workshop was held to get potters working on their donations for the Empty Bowls of Denton fundraiser, a charity the club supports every year.

• To round out our halfway mark of 2025, guest potter Amy Henson revisited the studio to demonstrate more glazing techniques using resist and layering methods with masking tape and wax.

Don’t forget that the Happy Potters have a beautiful display window outside the studio, not only showcasing the talents of our potters, but also pottery items that can be purchased. The display changes often, so be sure to check it out to find that special gift! Purchases can be made Mondays and Thursdays between 9 a.m. and noon.
