HiFi Club Attends Southwest Audio Fest

Randy Hatcher

Randy Hatcher, Mark Harty (Robson Hi-Fi Club president), and Mark Wegener attended the Southwest HiFi Expo at the Hilton Anatole Conference Center in Dallas on March 21. There were more than 60 rooms of high-end audio manufacturers, live music, seminars, distributors, and 120 exhibitors in total. This is one of the largest high-end international audio shows in North America. There were dozens of amazing audio products. The HiFi Club members heard stereo systems in the $100,000 to an over $1 million MBL system. It’s easy when the audio speakers are $450,000 a pair connected with a $285,000 speaker cord package! Oh, and then did you want MBL electronics to run it all?

Local dealer Scott Walker’s audio showroom had Randy checking out the new Audio Research amplifiers with the VP of their company, while Mark Wegener, owner of a vintage B77 Revox, was interested in the new 1/2-inch track tape machines. Vinyl dealers (you remember records) were in the lobby, along with high-end headphone dealers. Four special large rooms calibrated for outstanding sound had President Mark Harty saying, “I’m going to need a bigger house” (not to mention budget). All of this before lunch, and then on to three more floors of larger-than-life high-end audio sound. What an opportunity for seven hours of listening to the world’s best sound products reproduced from vinyl records on $56,000 turntables, along with tapes and online digital streaming by Qobuz.

The HiFi Club of Robson Ranch meets every 60 days, and there are no dues. Interested Robson residents may reach out by contacting Mark Harty at harty.mb@gmail.com.
