On the glorious morning of Monday, July 4, 45 dedicated walkers received their American flag scarves before joining Gil for their three-mile trail for a walk or jog around a charted area of Robson Ranch. They all made it back to the starting point where refreshing watermelon awaited, provided by the Rotary Club. They joined the thousands of Robson Ranch community residents, family, friends, and pups who had lined the boulevard with golf carts, chairs, and blankets, all awaiting the start of the parade.
Skyward, a helicopter and plane flew over several times. Proudly, all residents stood in deep respect for our country as the trumpeters played taps. Colorful, decorated golf carts, autos, and spectacular floats followed Denton’s best—fire department, sheriff, and police. Thanks to all who volunteered their time and decorating expertise and all those who participated in the walk and parade. Robson Ranch rocks! You made it another spectacular event for all the spectators, including all our friendly pets, bringing to light the meaning of our celebration—the birth of this great nation and the gift of freedom.
If you missed our Denton County safety presentation by Sheriff Orlando “Hino” Hinojosa and his teammates Joseph Gilbert and Mary Martin, you missed receiving some valuable information on new scams and some safety tips. Additionally, they spoke of some wonderful volunteer opportunities at the courthouse in their Community Relations Unit. Some of this information is on our website, rrlwc.com.
It’s hard to believe we’re halfway through the year. The Living Well Committee and member Scott work conscientiously to bring you informative and interesting speakers to our monthly events. We’re so thankful for Pat Sherman, vice president of Community Relations, and DATU Credit Union who supplies cookies and prizes for each event. Your presence and interest is greatly appreciated. Due to orthopedic surgeon Dr. David Shau’s emergency schedule, his presentation was postponed from July 8 and has been rescheduled for Friday, Sept. 16, from 1 to 3 p.m., in the Heritage Room. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Scott is trying to schedule each monthly presentation on the first Thursday of each month going forward (unless previously booked) to bring consistency to all our calendars. Please continue to view our website, rrlwc.com, for the most current information.
So, what else is coming up? It’s time for the Robson Ranch Olympics on Sept. 24. Registration was held on Aug. 1 at the Cimarron location from 5 to 7 p.m., and on Aug. 3 and 5 from 9 to 11 a.m., in the clubhouse. Let the events begin!
Also, Dan Ballenger will present information on Medicare on Oct. 6 from 2 to 4 p.m., in the Heritage Room. You won’t want to miss that! Again, all information is on our website, rrlwc.com.
We’re receiving so many wonderful comments from residents about our Friday Market Vendors and their wonderful selection of products. They’re an asset to our community, and we’re delighted that you see the value in their products and services. For those who haven’t shopped at our Friday Market, it’s open from 8 to 11 a.m. Go early, beat the heat, and get prime picks. A full list of vendors, their products, and contact information is on our website. Most vendors take pre-orders.
The HOA Living Well Committee will partner with the Robson Breast Cancer Awareness Group in our combined two-mile All Cancer Walk with Gil on Saturday, Oct. 15, starting at the clubhouse parking lot at 9 a.m., to support the group’s effort in fighting all cancers. Everyone is invited to walk or ride golf carts. All proceeds will benefit the Texas Oncology Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization providing assistance to cancer patients and their families in our area. A $25 (cash only) pre-registration fee includes a t-shirt for those registering by Sept. 9 in order to receive a t-shirt, or register on the day of the walk. If you’d rather not participate in our walk but prefer to donate, we will gladly accept your check donation to the Texas Oncology Foundation. Pre-registration dates are Aug. 22, 24, 29, and 31, and Sept. 7 and 9 at the clubhouse from 9 to 11 a.m.
The Robson Breast Cancer Group meets on the fourth Monday of each month. If interested in joining them, contact Pat Garrett at [email protected], Kathie Wilson at [email protected], or Nancy Thomas at [email protected].
I’m inspired by the Robson community residents and events that continue to keep us energized, enjoying new friendships in a healthy and happy environment.
