The Jewish Friendship Group gathered on Sunday, December 10. Elaine and Edward Barnett were this month’s hosts in celebration of the upcoming Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights. It commemorates the rededication of the Holy Temple (the Second Temple) in Jerusalem. We observe Hanukkah for eight nights because while there was only enough lamp oil for one night it miraculously lasted for eight nights!
Once again there was a great turnout leading to wonderful fellowship. Traditional holiday foods were shared including potato latkes (pancakes), lokshen kugel (noodle pudding) and of course jelly doughnuts. Holiday activities were discussed as we planned for ringing in the New Year.
Ilene and Jerry Schleshinger will host JFG in January. Thanks to Susan and Errol Cohen for assuming the coordinating responsibilities for the group. We are indebted to Phyllis Ayres for her tireless work over the last year ensuring everything ran smoothly. We welcome newcomers to the group. Contact Susan Cohen at 214-808-0921 or Stan Brein at 214-499-6970 for information.
We wish a Happy New Year to all!
