Residents at Robson Ranch were treated to a delicious dinner of brisket, greens, cornbread, and peach cobbler in celebration of Juneteenth.
Juneteenth was first celebrated in 1866, one year after enslaved people in the United States were informed of their freedom on June 19, 1865, in Galveston, Texas. While the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, it wasn’t until the arrival of Union troops in Galveston that the news of freedom reached all people in Texas. Although many Americans, especially African Americans, have celebrated Juneteenth annually for years. Since it was declared a national holiday in 2021, more Americans celebrate it. Robson Ranch administration, chef, and staff are commended for acknowledging the holiday. Perhaps in future years the participation in the celebration will be as high as for the 4th of July.
