There is a significant number of excellent organizations and clubs here at Robson Ranch that are staffed with volunteer leadership and run with little expense to the participants. One of these little-known organizations is the Just Good Readin’ Book Club. This club has been operational since 2002 and meets at the Clubhouse at 7:30 p.m. on the first Monday evening every month to review a book that the group previously selected. To date we have reviewed more than 100 books!
Our year begins with the selection of the books the group wants to review that year. Each participant of the group submits a list at the January meeting for two areas: Classics (oldies but still greats such as The Grapes of Wrath, To Kill a Mockingbird and Lord of the Flies). Others submitted include more current novels, biographies and non-fiction.
At our February meeting we vote to narrow the list down to one Classic and 11 others. Running ahead in the voting so far are A Man Called Ove, Hidden Figures and the mystery The Lake House.
Each book selected will be presented to the group at the assigned month by someone who has volunteered to lead the discussion. The presenter comes prepared with the background information about the author and highlights they have selected from the book that they found interesting. The presenter then answers questions from the group or leads the general discussions that take place regarding that book and author. It is very interesting to be part of these discussions and hear the various opinions, sometimes even diametrically opposed thoughts; hard to believe that from any of the un-opinionated troops from Robson Ranch!
We welcome newcomers to this book club so hope you come visit on the first Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the clubhouse. Our meetings usually last about an hour and are lively and good fun.
