Families chipping in for charity

The sun was shining, the atmosphere was lively and the fun was everywhere. It was the perfect day to get out the clubs and play a round of golf and at the same time help local charities. The Kiwanis Club Grandparent/Grandchild Golf Outing was held on June 17 at Robson Ranch’s Wild Horse Golf Course.
Held annually, the event gives golfers of all levels the chance to enjoy a fun day on the course and benefit the KC’s charities in the process. Approaching its ninth year, Bill and Alice Wright have been a part of the event since its inception and reflected afterward at how the golf outing allowed the KC to provide well-deserving charities financial support to continue their missions.
Golfers hit the links with teams comprised of grandparents and grandchildren. A four-person scramble format brought great excitement as they enjoyed one of the area’s top courses. Even though they’re family, it’s no surprise that when these “athletes” got together the competition heated up. “Don’t dip your left shoulder when you swing.” “Hit your chip shot to the green exactly how you practiced it.” “Check the roll of the green very carefully before you putt.” Advice heard across the course.
Each participant received a goodie bag filled with golf balls, tees, cap, discount golf coupons, tasty snacks and other treats. And that’s not all. A picnic lunch was included (hot dog, chips, and drink) and enjoyed in the back yard of Bill and Carol Rauhauser near the tee box on the 8th hole.
At the end of the day when the cleats were off and the clubs rinsed off, it was all about sharing the love of the game and the love of family, all for a cause. And through golfing, memories created; a memory that grandchildren are the hole-in-one in our lives.
