Kiwanis Club members welcomed a very informative presentation from Leigh Ann Weaver, Community Engagement Coordinator, and Chris Ice, Community Engagement Specialist, at the general meeting.
Leigh Ann and Chris provided an overview of the Community Engagement Mission, Purpose, and all the benefits to the children in the district. They added information about the current school year enrollment and an overview of the district and all its schools.
The Community Engagement group has been very active this summer with a New Hire Reception for 600 new employees, two Back-to-School Fairs, and several other events for the current school year.
Residents of the Robson Ranch community can make a difference by becoming a volunteer. There are many different opportunities for volunteers to help in different areas. Some highlights include attending field trips, assisting in classrooms, helping in the lunchroom, working with student clubs and organizations, and helping with STEM or Reading Nights, Fall Festivals, and Field Days
The largest impact we can make is to fill the need for adult mentors in the district. Mentoring happens when caring individuals provide young people with support, advice, friendship, reinforcement, and constructive examples. Mentoring can and does help young people succeed, no matter what their circumstances! At its most basic level, mentoring helps because it lets young people know that they have others who care about them and who will listen to their dreams and help them achieve their goals.
There are opportunities for community members to mentor on a weekly basis, working one-on-one with a child, as well as volunteering on a regular basis or for one-time events.
The Kiwanis Club members are so appreciative of Leigh Ann and Chris for taking their time to provide this important material.
