Each year Kiwanis of Robson Ranch joins Kiwanis clubs from all over the world on the same day to exhibit our personal commitment to serving our respective communities. This year it was April 5. Members from over 7,700 clubs in 80 countries around the world chose a project for their club members to perform which would renew their commitment to service.
For the third year in a row, our Kiwanis Club chose to help Sharkarosa Wildlife Ranch at Pilot Point in clearing natural vegetation around the property. Sharkarosa Wildlife Ranch sits on 126 breathtaking acres near Lake Ray Roberts. It was designed, fabricated and built by Scott Edwards of Pilot Point as a way to provide the North Texas community with the opportunity for kids and their parents to experience rare and endangered exotic wildlife in a unique and personal setting. Please look for the article on a recent presentation by Scott to the Kiwanis Club at Robson Ranch in this issue of the Pioneer Press for further insights on the property.
On our “One Day,” 10 Kiwanians donned their warmest work clothes, picked up their pruning shears and loppers and trudged off into the wilderness to do a little trimming of the paths so that the Safari Trams could navigate the property. All had a lot of fun. We got a little exercise and could feel good about what we accomplished knowing that we participated in an international spirit of service that inspires people around the world.
If you would like to join us in that spirit 52 weeks a year, come by and see us at one of our bimonthly meetings in the Bandera Room of the clubhouse. We meet the first and third Friday of each month at 8:30 a.m. We always start with a bit of socializing followed by an always informative presentation by various community organizations covering a wide variety of topics. Or contact our membership chair, Jim Galbraith, to get more information. Jim can be reached at [email protected]. You can also call him at 262-0600. We hope to see you at one of our meetings!
