Ginger Sheppard speaking to the members of Voices United at the October meeting
Dianne Ace
We all know that self-care is important; however, making that happen can be a challenge. Ginger Sheppard, a member of Voices United, spoke to the members at the October meeting about the importance of taking care of ourselves.
Ginger introduced the 5 C’s of Mental Health and how they form the basis of everyone’s mental and emotional health.
• Connection: building relationships with others,
• Compassion: being kind and understanding to others as well as ourselves, • Coping: using strategies and skills to navigate our lives,
• Community: being a part of a larger social network, and
• Care: taking proactive steps to maintain and improve our mental health.
Ginger explained how each of these concepts can be utilized to improve our well-being.
The members also heard from two Denton ISD representatives, Dr. Jeremy Thompson, Deputy Superintendent and CFO, and Dr. Deron Robinson, General Counsel. They explained how Prop A 2025 would impact the schools. Prop A seeks voter approval to raise the Maintenance & Operations tax rate for Denton ISD.
