The monthly Living Well Speakers Series Presentation took place on February 6 at the Clubhouse. The guest speaker was Jose Escobar, M.D. who is a board-certified thoracic surgeon who founded the Cardiac, Vascular and Thoracic Surgical Associates of Denton. Interestingly, Dr. Escobar did much of his education and medical training in the state of Texas and holds degrees from three different major state institutions. Dr. Escobar’s presentation contained a wealth of information relating to heart disease including types of heart disease, common risk factors associated with heart disease and treatment options once disease is diagnosed. The common risk factors discussed included smoking, stress, family history and obesity. As a note obesity has increased dramatically in the U.S. during the past 20 years and is associated with the growth of the fast food industry. The presentation was attended by approximately 70 Robson residents, many of whom had specific questions for Dr. Escobar. As Dr. Escobar completed his talk, he offered to address specific questions from the audience. That offer resulted in a number of residents lining up for input on personal health issues. DATCU representatives were present to greet attendees and they also provided cookies and water for everyone. The Living Well Committee will sponsor the annual Robson Ranch Health Fair
on April 6.
