Those of us who are line dancers know the benefits; it isn’t simply getting some exercise. While many may start out with the intention of taking a session of classes, many more find themselves becoming addicted to line dancing because they love the music, the confidence that grows from mastering a dance and the friendships that form.
Our group began with instructor Melba Hammer 10 years ago in the gym, before the clubhouse was built. Her love of dancing created a unique bond within this group. During our reunion we reminisced about the many hours we spent enjoying classes and showing off our dance moves on the grill patio, accompanied by Robson resident DJ David Laschinger.
We promenaded onto the dance floor, and all the familiar steps came rushing back to us. We experienced the exuberance of the fun dances we began with 10 years ago: Four Corners, Stray Cat Strut, Trashy Woman, Waltz Across Texas, Boot Scootin’ Boogie and a newer dance, Twinkle, Twinkle Lucky Star.
Melba’s line dance classes are every Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the clubhouse Lonestar Ballroom. There is no charge. She has actually taught here at the ranch every week for the past 14 years.
Thank you, Melba, for instilling the exhilaration of line dance within each of us. You are our inspiration.
