Motorcycle Club: In the Long Run, It’s the Camaraderie

Fine dining in Granbury

The Smoky Mountain Trip in September was absolutely fabulous—excellent route, breathtaking sights, and a wonderful time. The group exited just as Hurricane Helene was making its imposing presence felt. It is unbelievable to see what has happened to the area since the rains came. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have suffered so much devastation and loss. Please consider contributing to the organizations that are helping residents to get through and recover from this.

The lunch ride to Greenwood Grocery on Oct. 8 was led by Carrylyn Jacobs. About nine folks ventured out to the iconic eatery, 17 miles outside of Decatur on Hwy. 51. Greenwood was once a large settlement, but fires and loss of their cotton gin took its toll. The food, particularly the hamburgers, are worth a trip to this scenic site near the LBJ National Grasslands.

We had great weather for the annual trip to Granbury on Oct. 18-19. Ride Captain Mike Conley laid out a just about perfect route, taking us westbound on Hwy. 114 to just past Boyd and Hwy. 51. Then it was south through Springtown and Weatherford to arrive at Granbury on the Brazos River. Marti and Mike Conley, Ron Bane, Beth and Steve Collins, Tony Thomas, Nahla Lorenzi, Theresa and Keith Breiner, Rosie and Steve Bouse, Donna and Steve Williams, Jeana and Jeff Stieber, Nancy and Bob Whipple, Vickie Bond, and Joyce and Stan Brein all joined.

Strolling the Historic Granbury Square is always a fun experience with the shops, eateries, and scenery. A few of us stopped for lunch and a leg stretch at The Fillin’ Station, followed by a look at the stores. At the suggestion of Steve Collins, several folks headed out to Sledge Distillery. A tasting and a tour allowed us to sample and hear the wonderful backstory of the distillery.

The group gathered for dinner at 1890 Grill and Lounge on the Square. They offer contemporary American cuisine focusing on steaks and seafood. The ambiance and food were excellent, and the overall experience was highly unique. Talk to a club member who was there. From there, we walked two doors down on the square to the Granbury Opera House to see “The Long Run; Colorado’s Tribute to the Eagles.” Eagles songs are always good, but these exceptional musicians really brought it home. All in all, it was a wonderful outing.

On Nov. 1 we had a lunch ride to The Point Restaurant in Denison. Ron Bane led this jaunt.

The Coats for Kids Ride will take place on Nov. 30. There is still time to get that new coat to add to the club’s donation to the event. Drop it off with any club member, or come to the event at American Eagle Harley Davidson.

See you on the road!

Beware of cagers, and keep the rubber side down.
