“Let’s go to Luckenbach, Texas, with Waylon and Willie and the boys ….” The 1977 song written by Chips Moman and Bobby Gene Emmons and performed by Waylon Jennings was a great introduction to the Texas Hill Country for Joyce and me. Having arrived in Austin from Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1976, it inspired us to visit that and other Hill Country locations numerous times. Whether by car or by motorcycle with the Hill Country BMW Riders, there was always a calming element to passing the Bluebonnets, the peach groves, the LBJ Ranch, Fredericksburg, Kerrville, Comfort, Blanco, Bandera, and the like. I am so glad that the Hill Country Ride has now become a tradition for the Robson Ranch Motorcycle Club.

Ride Captain Reggie Rother led the group consisting of Ron Bane, Curtis Allison, Keith Breiner, Steve Collins, Barbara and Eddie Schmidt, Robert and Nancy Whipple, Larry Denk, and Steve Williams. The April 2 through April 6 ride was during the peak of Bluebonnets and wildflowers. Highlights included a stop in the famous town of Luckenbach, Texas, a visit to the historical German town of Fredericksburg, and a couple of nights in the quaint Hill Country town of Leakey. They even had a lunch stop at the original Salt Lick BBQ restaurant outside Driftwood, Texas. Riding highlights include the Guadalupe River Road from Kerrville to Leakey, the famous motorcycle roads known as the 3 Twisted Sisters (FM 335, FM 336, and FM 337), along with riding through fields of wildflowers. The group had overnight stays in Marble Falls, Leakey, and Lampasas. If you missed this one, get in queue for next year’s ride. Information is on our GroupWorks page.

Local lunch rides also continue. Red River Pizza in Nocona was the destination on April 14.

It’s always a great ride going north toward the Oklahoma border. There are countless two lanes going and once we get there. Dave Riddle (ride captain) led a contingent that included Mike Conley, Dave Popejoy, Ron Bane, Dave Riddle, and Scott Baker. Comments on GroupMe included, “Good ride and good pizza,” and “Good weather, good food. Look forward to the next one.”

The March breakfast ride to the Green Valley Café, just south of Lake Ray Roberts, was also a success. We will be going back there also.

May’s lunch ride will be to Brandy’s Country Kitchen in Decatur on the 23rd.
