Motorcycle Club: So Many Roads, So Little Time

Dining at Rooster’s Roadhouse

Stan Brein

Dave Riddle led off the May outings by captaining a ride on May 14 to Rooster’s Roadhouse on the Courthouse Square in Decatur. They bill themselves as being “Red Neck, White Trash, and Blue Collar,” and the atmosphere does not disappoint. They have a good variety of burgers, sandwiches, and BBQ and also offer a selection of salads and bowls. Some of the unique offerings include queso with hunks of brisket and onion, topped off with relish, and pulled pork nachos.

Neil Edelbaum, Ron Bane, Jeff Stieber, Carl Smith, Carrylyn Jacobs, Tony Thomas, Nahla Lorenzi, and Keith Breiner all took the slow backroad scenic route to Decatur. The weather was beautiful, but there was no doubt that warmer weather was just around the corner.

At the club board meeting on May 22, Mike Conley, Keith Breiner, Scott Baker, Jeff Stieber, Ron Bane, Dave Riddle, and Stan Brein held court to plan an exciting club schedule for the remainder of the year and beyond. The lineup is stout. On June 14 Robert and Nancy Whipple will lead a day ride to Boo Ray’s of New Orleans, along with a visit to the Civil War Museum in Eagle Mountain/Saginaw. July 3 will bring the eagerly anticipated Independence Day Decorating Party, graciously hosted by Vicki and Scott Baker. And as long as our rides are decorated, we might as well participate in the Robson Ranch 4th of July Parade the following day.

The following week, the club will ride to Annie’s Country Kitchen in Springtown for lunch, with Jeff Stieber leading the way. This will be followed by the annual jaunt to Angel Fire July 14–20. Great ride, great roads, great fun! Dave Riddle will lead a breakfast ride on Aug. 6. We favor breakfast rides during the hotter months in order to beat the afternoon heat.

Scott Baker has a lunch ride in the works for Sept. 10. Then the end of the month will have us taking off on the Great Smoky Mountain Ride to North Carolina. October brings the yearly trek to Granbury on the 18th and 19th, including seeing the Tribute to the Eagles at the Granbury Opera House.

The Coats for Kids Ride will be held this year on Saturday, Nov. 30. The summer months are a great time to get a bargain on a coat you can donate to the cause. The organization’s goal is to provide a coat for every child in Denton County who needs one.

Regarding communications, GroupWorks, the planning and communication tool for rides and events, will end in its current format on June 21. This impacts many of the clubs at Robson that use it. We are looking at workarounds. In the meantime, information will continue to be passed on through GroupMe, the daily Robson HOA blasts, and in the Pioneer Press. Wow! Much going on!

See you on the road!

Beware of cagers, and keep the rubber side down!
