All the folks!
Stan Brein
The time of year we anticipate all year is the holiday season: food, fun, and favors; illumination of houses with festive colors; animated displays and signs of peace and understanding; the shopping frenzy that cannot be avoided, either in the stores or on the road; the gathering of friends and neighbors for traditional celebrations that seem to outdo the previous year’s event; the anticipation of traveling to or receiving family for joyous times and making memories.
Traditions abound and help us tie the present and the past to the future. The Robson Ranch Motorcycle Club has celebrated two events that hallmark the holiday season. For the past 10 years, we have been an important part of the Denton County Coats for Kids Ride (C4KR). Motorcyclists like to ride their bikes, and they particularly enjoy riding in groups. Add to the mix a worthy charitable purpose, and you have the perfect recipe for a satisfying time. The Coats for Kids Ride is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to provide new coats for the school children of Denton County. Established in 2009, it has provided more than 25,000 coats. We have chosen only new coats with the labels on them so that the kids can have a new coat of their own that no one else has worn.
C4KR distributes coats to all of the school districts in Denton County and some schools in Wise County. We were also able to provide coats for the Children’s Advocacy for North Texas. This year we collected more than 2,000 coats for distribution. The club provided about 200 of that total, along with a cash donation of $600. It was an exceptional effort, and we have many groups and individuals to thank for that. Among these are Robson Ranch Voices United, Cherlyn and Bob Conway and the NxNW Neighbors, Marti and Mike Conley and the Maryland Court Neighbors, John Salmon, Jim Elliot, Robert and Nancy Whipple, Vicki and Scott Baker, and the great women and men of the Robson Ranch Motorcycle Club. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this great effort! Thank you! Thank you!
And then it was time for our other yearly tradition: the Holiday Party. This year the esteemed committee (Vicki Baker and Marti Conley) selected The GreenHouse Restaurant in Denton as the location to celebrate. It did not disappoint! The ambiance was perfect, and we had our own reserved room in the back of the restaurant (I think for our benefit, but probably more likely for the sake of the other patrons!). The crowd enjoyed great food and fellowship as we mingled and reminisced about rides past and anticipated those yet to come. Of course, we were aided by RR Motorcycle Club President Mike Conley’s video presentation of all of our accomplishments for the past year. The highlight of the evening was again the White Elephant Gift Exchange. Did you get a treasure or trash? Both were in good supply!
Happy New Year to all!
See you on the road!
Beware of cagers, and keep the rubber side down.
