Our Daily Bread Denton Is Creating a Program for the Homeless

Faustina Richardson

Since its inception in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than $26 million in grants to law-related programs. Supported by members of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation is the nation’s largest charitably-funded bar foundation.

Our Daily Bread would like to give its utmost appreciation to the Texas Bar Foundation for granting $25,000 for its new Legal Advocacy Program. With this program, Our Daily Bread will have a full-time Legal Advocate on staff to aid guests in any legal issues that may arise, as well as form a partnership with the Denton County Probate and Municipal Courts.

Many project participants face ongoing barriers of missed court hearings, unpaid citations, and criminal charges that can be barriers to housing. Program services will include assisting participants to resolve their citations without having to pay money or serve jail time by completing community service or attending educational classes or meetings. Additional services include offering virtual court hearings, aiding in housing program applications, completing job applications, and obtaining health insurance. Through our Legal Advocacy Program, funded by the Texas Bar Foundation, Our Daily Bread will be able to work one-on-one with guests, as well as refer guests to legal aid.

Our Daily Bread is honored in partnering with the Texas Bar Foundation in breaking down barriers for those experiencing homelessness.
