Patriotic Pet Pictures a Huge Success!

Freya, a puppy in training for Patriot Paws

Lorraine Wilson

The Patriotic Pet Pictures fundraising event was a huge success! With a total of 18 photo sessions, 14 people, and 24 dogs photographed, the event was busy and a lot of fun. By the end of the day, we had raised $350 and had a great time! Our first dog of the day was Freya, a nine-month-old puppy in training for Patriot Paws. The Happy Tails Dog Club Board was so impressed with Freya and what the organization does that they decided to donate $250 of the proceeds of the fundraiser to Patriot Paws.

A fun Bark & Brag event was held during our Aug. 12 meeting. It was the perfect opportunity for club members to get together and show off pictures of their dogs and brag about how wonderful they are. Dog pictures were passed around while members told everyone about what makes their dog so special. A few laughs, a few tears, and lots of camaraderie was shared!

Bette Sherman, chairman and co-founder of the Denton Animal Support Foundation (DASF), will be our guest speaker at our Sept. 9 meeting.

Happy Tails Dog Club held a very successful Pet Food Drive the entire month of April, working with the Denton Animal Support Foundation, and that Pet Food Drive benefited the Pet Food Pantry at the Linda McNatt/City of Denton Animal Shelter, Our Daily Bread, Span Meals on Wheels Senior Paws, and the Denton Veterans Association. Each of these programs supplies temporary assistance to help individuals and families facing income insecurity to feed their pets. Recently, DASF has been inundated with requests for help, not only for pet food, but for emergency medical financial assistance as well. They try their best to accommodate each request and to find ways to aid with keeping pets healthy and to remain in their loving homes.

With the success of the April Food Drive, Happy Tails Dog Club will be holding another Food Drive from Aug. 27 through Sept. 9. All pet food donated will be presented to Bette Sherman for the Denton Animal Support Foundation. Further details will be sent out through the weekly HOA emails. This is your chance to make a difference to so many animals and people in the Denton community.

Membership in the Happy Tails Dog Club is $10 a year per household, and renewal only $5 a year! Meetings are held monthly on the second Saturday in the CATC building, Room 103, from 10:20 a.m. to noon. Happy Tails Dog Club exists for the purpose of improving the quality of life for our companion animals, and we are dedicated to the education, socialization, and activities of our members.
