Larry Nortunen, RRDPC Academy
The Robson Ranch Denton Pickleball Club continues to train new members during the recently completed April and May Pickleball Academies. Twenty-one students, new to pickleball and mostly new to Robson Ranch, completed the training consisting of four evening sessions.
Academy Instructors led sessions covering pickleball rules, scoring, basic strokes, game strategy and when and where to play. After completing the academy graduates will feel comfortable to begin play both indoors and on our new outdoor courts. Separate play groups are established to accommodate all levels of players.
April Graduates: Rob Atherton, Yrene Gannon, Catherine Griffin, John and Melanie Heffner, Dennis and Kathy Hester, Liz Lipperman, John Napurano, Dan and Susan Stage. Instructors: Sherril Kerr, Jackie Kuykendall and Mike McKinney.
May Graduates: Loucille Battig, Gary Blalock, William Diehnelt, Bob Miller, Gary Oknefski, David and Jan Park, Al and Linda Smith and Ralph Villagomez. Instructors: Pat Claytor, Sherril Kerr, Char Thompson and Warren Williamson.
Pickleball is a great sport for exercise, camaraderie and fun. Of special interest is the number of couples participating in the training and follow-on play as well.
Go to the club website: www.rrdpc.com to find the next academy dates and to register for the academy.
Other great pickleball training opportunities include Open Ball Machine evenings on Tuesdays and Sundays at 6:00 and group mentoring.
