For the 6th year, members of the Robson Ranch Pickleball Club were invited to teach the sport of pickleball to the students at Argyle Intermediate School. This consisted of meeting all physical education classes for two days, and then seven weeks of the after school club where approximately 50 students participated. Over the course of these weeks, 25 different volunteers from the R.R. club oversaw the six indoor courts that were measured and taped in the gym. Many thanks to the guidance counselor, Ron Veit, for doing the taping and staying after school to be the mandatory faculty on hand in case a need arose.
There were more 5th graders in attendance than 6th graders, so a doubles tournament was played on the last scheduled day of the club for them. The 6th graders had great singles matches with lots of action and strategy being used. Fantastic prizes were presented to winners and runners-up that were donated by members of the R.R. club!
Unfortunately, this is the last time both grades will play this sport in their school because next year Argyle Intermediate School will house 4th and 5th graders. This year’s 5th and 6th graders move on to the new middle school.
If anyone reading this knows of a place indoors where students could play, please let me know because they really want to continue this popular sport.
