Happy New Year!
2014 was a great year for the Robson Ranch Denton Pickleball Club! We had mixers, ladders, clinics and lots of outdoor play. Now that 2015 is here, it’s dues time. Membership this year is $15 per person and includes all of these activities, balls and more; what a great deal.
We capped off 2014 with a special introduction to our new sponsor, the Horny Toad Café. On December 18 members were treated to appetizers, discounted drinks and door prizes. Tim Trawick, the owner of both the Horny Toad and Abbey Inn in Denton, will offer promotional support for upcoming events such as tournaments and parties. The sponsorship was gained through a partnership with the UNT School of Journalism’s student-run advertising agency.
Fall Ladder
The Fall Ladder was completed December 10 after 10 weeks of play. Congratulations to Bob Romagosa, Jim Propes, Warren Williamson and Ken Huff who finished in the top spots and to all the members who participated. Thanks to Eldon Reynolds who again did all the scheduling and to Pam Clements who posted the scores each week.
The ladder is a great venue for fun, camaraderie and exercise. Participation in the ladder allows players to have three consecutive matches indoors each week, and no partner is needed. All skill levels are encouraged to play. Scores are posted, and players move up or down the “rungs” of the ladder. After several weeks of play, participants are fairly evenly matched along the rungs, making for some really fun pickleball.
After seven years as ladder chair, Eldon is passing the baton to Fred Thompson. The first ladder was in the fall of 2007 with 16 players. In 2014 we had 55 competitors and 16 substitutes. This reflects the growth in the popularity of pickleball. During his tenure, Eldon introduced an on-line scheduling and scoring system, which was available through the USAPA. He has worked tirelessly to make it easy to coordinate and make it fun for all participants. Thank you, Eldon!
Fred will now take over and with the help of the ladder committee will coordinate the spring ladder. Plans for an outdoor ladder are in the works. Keep an eye on the pickle jar for more information.
It’s the Pickle Ball Ya’ll 2015! Calling all you cowboy and cowgirl “wannabes!” January 30 is the date and is fast approaching. DJ Bill Cody will again keep our boots scootin’ for a fabulous evening of fun and games and BBQ Robson Ranch style. The price is $15 per person and includes DJ, dinner and door prizes. Pay your 2015 dues and ball together, and double your chances for a fabulous prize! Keep an eye on the pickle jar for more details.
