Rising from the Ashes of Grief

Kate Woods

Grief and loss are part of every life, and as we get older, they are unavoidable. Losses are not limited to the death of a loved one. The loss of a career or meaningful work or the loss of our health and mobility can also affect us deeply. As with physical health, grief is a process that we can aid if we understand it.

At our May 3 monthly meeting, Voices United will offer a presentation by Barbara “Barb” Petsel, a retired licensed professional counselor, thanatologist (end of life and grief issues), and registered nurse. Although she retired from her private counseling practice, she continues to facilitate some grief groups and speak professionally. Her experiences include working as head nurse of a neurosurgical ICU, hospice nurse, and cardiac nurse, and after going to graduate school, she became a licensed professional counselor and served as program director of Journey of Hope. She had a private counseling practice until her retirement in 2019. Barb has done volunteer work locally and internationally. She has facilitated groups for anticipatory grief, cancer support, caregiver support, grief, suicidal loss, and personal growth groups. She brings wisdom learned from her dear patients and clients.

Please join us on May 3 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for our monthly meeting and luncheon. Details can be found at tinyurl.com/e7r74dfk or Google “Voices United on the Road Forward” for our web page.
