Andrew McVeigh of Texans for Fiscal Responsibility

Robson Ranch Conservatives proudly presented Andrew McVeigh at their Sept. 17 monthly meeting. Mr. McVeigh is the current president and CEO of Texans for Fiscal Responsibility (TFR) based in Austin, Texas. TFR is an independent, educational nonprofit which illuminates the actions of our state government, as well as educates and equips citizens to advocate for pro-taxpayer and pro-family reforms while holding lawmakers accountable for their voting records.

Mr. McVeigh’s presentation focused heavily on the 17 proposed constitutional amendments on the Tuesday, Nov. 4, ballot in an effort to apply the Texas Prosperity Plan principles outlined by TFR, which include ending taxpayer-funded lobbying, elimination of property taxes, and cutting government spending. Ending taxpayer-funded lobbying allows elected officials to represent constituents directly and fund essential services rather than lining lobbyists’ pockets. TFR proposes phasing out property taxes, starting with school taxes, which account for roughly half of the average property owner’s tax bill. Because Texas state spending has grown faster than population growth plus inflation, it has become unsustainable and makes property tax relief extremely difficult. TFR calls for capping the state budget and cutting wasteful spending to prioritize the needs of Texas families. Following the presentation, the audience engaged in a question-and-answer session.

Robson Ranch Conservatives meet at the clubhouse the third Wednesday of each month starting at 6 p.m. On Oct. 15 Robson Ranch Conservatives will present Christi Craddick (Texas Railroad Commissioner) and Andrew Yeager (president of Southlake School Board). Join us and learn about issues affecting our local quality of life. Door prizes and snacks are always provided, along with no membership dues to attend.
