The RR Gun Club April 11 monthly meeting recognized and celebrated the 2023 200th Anniversary of the Texas Rangers. The Texas Rangers are one of the oldest continuously operating law enforcement agencies in the world, and certainly one of the most celebrated, with over 1000 books and movies produced about them.
Our guest speakers were Assistant Deputy Chief Barry Caver and Captain Ron Pettigrew of the Denton County Sheriff’s Office. Both speakers, as well as two other Sheriff’s Office staff, including Sheriff Murphree, are retired Texas Rangers.
The presentation of “The History of the Texas Rangers” took us back to the 10 original Rangers of 1823, through the Bonnie and Clyde days and to the present time with drones and 1,000-HP boats with .50 caliber machine guns on the Rio Grande. The standing-room-only audience of over 80 members gave the retired Rangers a long and well-deserved standing ovation.
The mission of the club is to promote safety, education, legal sporting, and recreational use of firearms through fellowship and training of its members.
The Gun Club holds its monthly meetings on the second Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the clubhouse. Our May meeting was offsite on May 10, and our July meeting will be a social on Sunday, July 16. We do not meet in December. Our meetings include interesting outside guest speakers, as well as members who talk on firearm-related items and issues.
