Rupa A Mathur
It has been a few months since my last article about RR International Club activities has been published. The members have continued meeting on the third Thursday of the month regularly.
The October gathering was held at Fred and Diane van Naerssen’s home, and on November 17, 2016 Lisa and Tom Guyer hosted the Thanksgiving dinner. Almost every year Lisa has been very kind to host the Thanksgiving dinner. As usual Lisa outperformed herself. The members had a marvelous time feasting on the turkey and the accompaniments.
Lenie and Loren Christensen hosted the Christmas party on December 17, 2016. Lenie provided a traditional meal called “Maastrichter ‘kaw sjotel’ oftewel’” and “Maastrichtse Koude Schotel,” which sounds cool, but according to Lenie it is a potato salad with beef, which is dressed up with hard boiled eggs and other trimmings. The members had a great deal of fun exchanging and stealing each other’s gifts.
Thank you Lenie and Loren for hosting the Christmas party. We need hosts like you to keep the International Club alive.
Elections for officers was held at the December meeting to serve for the next two-year term. The following members were selected: Marie Christine Koop, president; Rupa Mathur, vice president; Jennie Chiang, Treasurer; Salette Ogre, sunshine person.
We want to thank Fred van Naerssen for serving as president, Susan Gruben as treasurer and Franzi Mullan as sunshine person for all the hard work they put in to make our club grow.
It is with great sadness that I write about the loss of one of our dear members, Alice Uveda who was of Japanese origin. Alice passed away on December 5, 2016. A memorial service was held on December 13 at 4:00 p.m. at the Clubhouse. Alice will be missed by us all.
We held our January meeting at the Blue Ginger Japanese Bistro. Jennie Chiang organized the event. The members had a wonderful time exchanging New Year greetings. Jennie collected the dues at this meeting, which are $10 per single person and $15 per couple.
We welcome new members and would like to invite residents of Robson Ranch who meet the eligibility requirements to become members.
Eligibility for Membership: To become a member of the International Club, the participant may be single or a couple, be a resident of Robson Ranch and be born outside of the United States and be of foreign origin. The International member’s spouse and significant other are welcome to attend our gatherings.
Meetings are generally held on the third Thursday of each month, and on special occasions we change the day.
Activities: Include outings, luncheons or dinners either at members’ homes or restaurants. This forum enables us to promote and share our culture, experiences, cultivate friendships, as well as provide support and understanding.
Please contact one of the following officers if you are interested in becoming a member: Marie Christine Koop at 940-262-7756, [email protected] or Jennie Chiang at 405-202-9580, [email protected].
