On July 9 a group of Rockin’ Reds and their families, including grandchildren on summer vacation, had an early lunch at Cheddar’s and then gathered at the UNT Sky Theater for a special show. The Texas sun blazed fiercely outside, but inside the theater, a refreshing coolness greeted them.

The show, The Planets and Beyond, was entertaining and informative. Stars twinkled, planets spun, and galaxies unfurled across the domed ceiling as the group learned about constellations in the Denton night skies and the myths they are based on. Our galaxy and planets were explored and illuminated by the celestial display. The children chose planets to investigate and asked questions after the presentation. The adults also found themselves enchanted by the spectacle.

As the show concluded, the lights gradually brightened, and the crowd slowly made their way out of the theater, still buzzing with excitement. Linda Kotzur, Fran Howard, and Nita Ice organized this planetarium adventure and were thankful for all who attended.

On July 12 an inviting “come-if-you-can” gathering took place at Marty B’s Ice Cream to beat the summer heat and celebrate National Ice Cream Month. Hosted by Queen Carla Baldassaro and her enthusiastic Vice Queen Sandy Hestes, the event was a delightful escape filled with laughter, sweet treats, and community spirit. Attendees enjoyed a variety of ice cream flavors, from classic vanilla to a few more exotic concoctions, all while mingling and sharing stories. The atmosphere was vibrant, with a sense of camaraderie that made everyone feel welcome and refreshed.
