Sassy Stampers Trick-or-Treat

Cherlyn Conway

It’s a sure sign that fall is upon us with the crisper morning temperatures and pumpkins, scarecrows, and graveyard decorations all around the Ranch. Not to be outdone, the monthly Stampers meeting/card making day on Oct. 19 had plenty of black, orange, and pumpkins to decorate this month’s card.

Our October project leader was Mary Nordenson with her Halloween Fun Fold card. Mary touched on the basics of the card assembly, then turned it over to the table teachers who reviewed the instruction sheet and brought attention to the fact that there was two-sided, festive, Halloween-themed paper in each kit. The hardest decisions that had to be made with this card were which side of the paper you wanted and what sentiment you might want to add to the outside lift, peek-a-boo section. With decisions made, it was time to fussy cut, color, and place the pumpkins and trick-or-treat bag and add any other bling or additional sentiments on the cards. What a fun, quick, go-to card, which can be adapted to fit any occasion.

Before the fun of making the card, the monthly business meeting was conducted with the introduction of a new member. Word must have gotten out about how much fun Sassy Stampers is, as our club continues to grow. There were updates on the recent request for cards for Justin Food Bank. Never doubt that the Stampers came through, with more than 250 cards for the food bank. The cards included birthday, Christmas, and teacher appreciation, which the young clients of the food bank will pick out for their family and teachers.

Other meeting agenda items included that November will find us voting on the board for 2025, the holiday party will be held on Dec. 14 with the normal gift exchange, Support Our Troops (SOT) Veterans Day auction cards are due, and there are still a few special event days before the end of 2024.

As with any club, as the saying goes, many hands make light work. In our club, it takes many hands to set up the room on meeting day, check Stampers in, be a table teacher, and break down the room after the meeting. Those who volunteered for anything for the month, as well as anyone who brought cards to adorn our Sassy Stampers window, are put in a drawing for an Amazon gift card.

As the year winds down for us, creativity and the love of this craft know no time. We hope you have been a recipient of some of the cards that come out of the craft rooms around the Ranch and, if not, you might need to befriend a Sassy Stamper!

In the words of Dewitt Jones, “Creativity is the ability to look at the ordinary and see the extraordinary.” We hope we see you peeking at our window in the CATC and being in awe of the talent that exists in this place we all call home.
