November 1 was a beautiful, brisker-than-normal sunny morning for the Robson Ranch Shredding and Recycling Day. Cars started lining up early even though the event didn’t start until 9:00. We had a great time taking your personal papers for shredding, electronics, batteries and old medications. Computer Crushers took everything from computers to televisions and batteries to telephones. The Denton Police Department was here to take your unused or expired medications and dispose of them properly, which saves our land fields and does not contaminate our water. The City of Denton was also taking all those household batteries and light bulbs. Magic Shred worked hard shredding those bags and boxes full of documents. Sorry, I had to turn away a few of the late arrivals. It appeared we had more paper this time than in the past, and the truck was packed full when he was finished.
We strive to make this event run smoothly, but there were lines for the Computer Crusher, and it took time to pull out those hard drives and crush them. Next year should be better as they will send two people to assist our residents, and we’ll also make sure they are setup away from the shredding truck to help the traffic flow.
I would like to thank those that helped with this event: Robson Ranch Patrol, Mike Melo, who put out the cones and tried to keep those cars going to the correct line or direction in the parking lot. Also helping were Facilities Attendants Jim McCormack, Ed Klenke, John Stanton and Yuriy Boychuk, who worked as a team to help unload the cars, dump boxes or tubs and breakdown the boxes left behind.
If you need to dispose of unused or expired medications, there is a kiosk at 601 E. Hickory St. For additional information visit this website: www.dentondrugsdisposal.com.
