Sigma Chi Brothers Celebrate Derby Day

Sigma Chi Brothers of Robson Ranch

Dave Parker

As Brother Chuck Newcomer would say, “It’s not Derby Day until we say it’s Derby Day!” Brother Chuck arranged an over-the-top Derby Day for the Brothers and their Sweethearts. Every detail was covered, from Sigma Chi flags to table-top tents. He even had a photobook of past events for every Brother attending! Brother Chuck ordered up mint julips, margaritas, hot appetizers, and cheese and crackers. Brother Mick Fox and Brother Dan Nicolet provided two different betting tables with multiple betting options. The winning Kentucky Derby horse was drawn by Sweetheart Joni Deibel, which included the largest payout. Brother Wayne Rees provided a white rose for all Brothers to give to their Sweetheart. After the roses were distributed, Brother Chuck Newcomer ordered a champagne toast as the Brothers sang “The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi.” (Sorry for the off-key notes to all who could hear!) The event is one of the most popular Sigma Chi get-togethers of the year.

The Brothers remain on double secret probation at the Ranch! Any Sigma Chi’s living at the Ranch who would like to join the group should contact Brother John Humphries at [email protected].
